2014 June Monthly Income Report – The big drop and my plan to recover

Welcome to my June 2014 monthly income report.Time flies, it’s time for another monthly report. As always, if you are only interested to read the numbers and run away, you can find total income for each month from the table on the summary page.

Here comes the details of June 2014:

Section 1: Niche Sites Monthly Status Update

I made a big decision for my business, yes,  a big one. I am going to take an internship opportunity offered by Hayden Miyamoto. If you have no idea about who Hayden is, you can find his blog here. I learned about this opportunity from Spencer’s podcast interview with him. After carefully considering what is missing in my business, I made this decision and I will make the commitment for 5 weeks starting from July 21st as it’s perfect timing for me – all my family members, except myself will be in China for a summer vacation at the time.

It’s time to take my business to a brand new level. I set up my goal to achieve $2000 monthly water mark by the end of this year. I know it seems to be a very lofty goal for me based on my few hundred dollars earning per month now. And it’s only 5 and half months to go.

I submitted my application yesterday and now I am waiting for the response patiently. I know there are going to be lots of applicants, but I really hope I can gain the opportunity because I am eager to achieve my goal this year very badly.

Now let’s look into the details for the 4 websites that I have been focusing on for Jun 2014:

Again, or security reason, I can’t disclose any of niche sites’ web address, but I will share as much details as I could. If you want to know more or have any questions, please leave me a comment below.

1st niche site (BTM) – this is a site in fashion and beauty industry. I started this website in June 2013. Traffic in June has been decreased from May as a couple keywords has their ranking moved down a bit. If you remember from last month, I switched the Theme to the review site theme as Perrin is using for his apennyshaved.com.

First of all, let’s look at the traffic (if you can not see the picture clearly, please click to enlarge):

site1 trafficsite1 user You can see the total sessions (visits) is 2,579, which is less than 3,235 from last month. I don’t think it has anything to do with summer. The 20% drop is caused by the ranking fluctuation, but I rather focus on conversion rate as I can always add more links from my PBN (Private Blog Networks) to boost the traffic back up. Now if you compare the Avg. Session Duration and Bounce Rate, it’s not hard to see that they have been improved slightly:

Avg. Session Duration is 1:12 vs. 0:50 from May

Bounce Rate is 78.40% vs. 84.11% from May

If you remember from last month, I have switched the WordPress Theme from IntelliTheme to the Review Theme that has better and cleaner looking. I also took AdSense completely off the site for June. Therefore my AdSense earning for this site is only $1.68 (I switched the Theme on the 2nd of the month), but on the other side, Amazon conversion rate has been improved, now let’s look at the daily trend of clicks from Amazon:

site1 Amazon1site1 Amazon2Even though conversion rate of 3.80% is not something significant, comparing to 0.61% from May, it has definitely been improved a lot.

Now I look at the total income of the site:

AdSense Earning Amazon Earning
June 2014 – Niche Site 1 $1.65 $7.23

and find a problem. The total income, $8.88 has been decreased a lot from the total $34.09 from last month as Amazon earning is much less comparing to AdSense earning, therefore I will consider switching back to IntelliTheme, or add AdSense Ads to the review theme and see if it will improve at all.

2nd niche site (BFW) this is also a site in fashion and beauty industry. I started the site from December 2013. As I mentioned in last month’s report, I used the exact same PBN (Private Blog Network) to rank this site as the 1st site, I expect some further traffic growth with current back links in the near future, which has been proved to be right. Now Let’s see traffic of June for this site:

site2 trafficsite2 userTotal sessions (visits) is 1,320 comparing to 896 in May, it’s about 47% increase. I switched to HeatMap Theme for this site and the earning are the following:

AdSense Earning Amazon Earning
Jun 2014 – Niche Site 2 $4.73 $4.58

The total is only $9.31, but it’s great to see some Amazon affiliate earning. The conversion looks as the following:

site2 Amazon1site2 Amazon27.41% is great for the very first month. Now I need to work on getting more clicks from the visits.

3rd niche site (LBG): This site is in the baby niche and it has the potential to become an authority site. In June, I left around 15 blog comments to related blogs and I can see about 4 of them showing up. I also build one high PR link from my own PBN in addition to one high PR link I ordered from Jon Haver’s Lightning Rank. Since

site3 trafficsite3 userEven though I have not really made any sales in the month of June, after building some great links, I eventually see traffic picking up since the big drop happened on May 13. The site was receiving around 120 visit per day before the drop and the traffic went down to 30-40 visits per day after the drop. Beginning from Jun 28, traffic went back up to around 55-60 visits per day at the time when this post is written. I made a sale on July 6th, 2013. As this site is selling high value items with price range between $150-$300, even 10-20 sales can make a good commission for one month. My ongoing plan is to add quality links on regular base in order to boost up the site a little further.

AdSense Earning Amazon Earning
May 2014 – Niche Site 3 $0.00 $0.91

The total income is $0.91.

4th niche site (GWHD): This is my newest website that I started in mid February 2014. I added a few new posts slowly onto this site and also built a couple of high PR links in June. The traffic started to pick up from June 11. Traffic level went from around 10 visits per day to around 35 visits per day. To my surprise, I actually made a few sales. It’s definitely a great start.

site4 traffic 3.57.57 PMsite4 user 3.57.57 PMAgain I keep the Review Theme that Perrin is using for his Shaving site and Amazon conversion rate seems very impressed.

site4 amazonNow the total earning for the month of June is the following:

AdSense Earning Amazon Earning
May 2014 – Niche Site 4 $0.00 $19.15

The total is $19.15 and I hope to see some increase after I revised some of the high traffic contents and add more articles and high PR links.

Section 2: Other Incomes

Even though niche site is the way to go, at current stage, eBay earning is still a significant portion of my total earnings. In addition, I have a plan to add more income stream in next few month. I will summarize everything other than niche site earnings in this section.

The summary of the earnings for each product line is the following:

May 2014 – eBay Earning
Product Line 1 $109.07
Product Line 2 $21.64

Total is $130.71. As summer is coming, I expect the earning will be further decreased in July.

Section 3: Expenses Summary

To keep expenses under control has always been the key to success no matter what type of business you have. I have not done a great job on controlling my expenses. I was actually shocked when I first reviewed my expenses for the first time in May, I did improve a bit since last month, but I am still far away from perfect.

Recurring Expenses Amount
Serpbook subscription (ranking history)  $29.97
Done For You Private Blog Network (from Jon)  $49.99
Elance (Article writing for LBG site) $0
Long Tail Pro (from Spencer) $17
Auctiva  $9.95
eBay Store Fee  $49.95
Aweber $19
LightningRank – 1 Post Per Month Package (by Jon) $75
Sub Total $250.86
One Time Expenses Amount
 Pheenix Inc. (Renew Sites) $19.98
CopyScape $10
ManageWP (Last Payment) $27.95
Site Renewal $20.14
HostGator (Hosting Service) $9.95
Site Renewal $11.98
Name Cheap (Site Renewal)
Hosting Renewal
Sub Total $281.12

Total is $531.98. The expense went down about 50% – so I really see some improvement right away. As most of my sites and hosting services got renewed for the year already, I am expecting the expense getting even lower in next few months.

Section 4: Goals and Plans

Overall, my earning is still less than my expenses for the month of May, so while working on growing my sites to earn more revenue, I need to watch out my expenses and cut all the unnecessary ones.

Now some goals for the month of July:

Niche Site 1 (BTM): switch the theme back to IntelliTheme for now as Amazon earning is not strong enough and try other themes see if any possibility to convert better.

Niche Site 2 (BFW): It has been very exciting to see traffic growth to BTM site, I play around with different themes to improve conversion rate for this site and hope to make a $1/day month next month for this site.

Niche Site 3 (LBG): continue to work on getting my ranking back by adding more links from my PBN and other High Authority links.

Niche Site 4 (GWHD): I will keep working on adding more back links and new contents to bump up the traffic further and earnings.

Now it’s getting to the end of June’s monthly report. Like always,  I really appreciate your patience to read my first monthly income report. If you have any questions or comments, please leave me a message below.
